Paper SandwichesMy art might be described with the phrase "paper sandwiches."The paper sandwiches are layers of between four to eight roughly five-inch square pieces of paper. Working from top to bottom, shapes are cut out from each layer in the "sandwich" -- picture a slice of Swiss cheese. Each paper layer in the sandwich not only contributes to the final picture but it also reveals the shapes and colors of the layers of paper below it. The paper is kept inside of a protective CD case, a perfect sized enclosure for the layers of paper. The great thing about it is that you can open the tray and examine the layers of paper. Of course, that has to be done carefully since some of the layers are so intricately cut that they're fragile. There is no glue involved, just cut paper. The cases may be displayed in a custom framing system that I developed specifically to allow the owner to be able to open the frame and remove the CD case to examine the contents.
